Get to know… Mike Caspino, Founding Partner of Brady,
Vorwerck, Ryder & Caspino
Born and bred a Southern California boy, Mike Caspino has certainly embraced the active lifestyle that is
prevalent amongst those who live in this
sunny land of dreams.
Q. Tell us a little about your childhood.
a. i grew up about an hour north of Los
angeles. i am the fourth of five children.
i was very active in sports growing
up and played football and baseball
in college. i went to the University of
Redlands and then to Southwestern Law
School in Los angeles.
Q. What kind of jobs did you have while
you were in school?
a. When i was in law school, i worked on
the Los angeles subway system digging
and tunneling about 800 to 1,000 feet
under Wilshire Boulevard. That was an
interesting job.
Mike Caspino, here with his family, is not only the founding partner of a thriving
law firm, but also an avid runner and has completed several ironman triathlons.
Q. That sounds physically demanding.
How do you keep in shape today?
a. Mostly i run. at first, i ran a little, then i
ran more, and then more until i was doing marathons.
i’ve done several marathons all over the country, including
new York, Boston, Los angeles and new York. i’ve also
completed several
triathlons, including
ironman triathlons.
swimming to be a time when i’m alone with my thoughts
and can think about cases i’m working on or about my
kids and family.
Q. How do you
find the strength
and stamina to
complete an
ironman triathlon?
That’s a 2.4-mile
swim and a 112-
mile bike ride on
top of a full
marathon.
a. it’s really
more of a mental
challenge than a
physical one. it
takes me about
11 hours to finish.
i have always
found my time
running, cycling or
Q. How did you meet your wife?
a. Kim and i met through friends. When we first met, she
had never run a mile in her life, but within two years she ran
the La marathon. now, i’m embarrassed to say that she’s a
faster runner than i am.
Q. How many children do you have?
a. We have three — Jack, 12, grace, 10 and Sam, 8.
They keep us busy. i’ve coached my sons’ baseball teams
for the past seven years, which i love. My daughter is a
dancer, so there’s also a lot of time driving back and forth
to the dance school five nights a week and then to various
shows and competitions on the weekends.
Q. That and your law practice must not leave you time for
much else.
a. i’m also on the board of Casa Teresa, a shelter for
homeless, pregnant women in Orange County. We give
them a place to live, counseling and the support they
need to have their baby. additionally, i am active in
volunteer leadership positions for the Catholic Diocese of
Orange County.
